Last week I visited my provider. Two weeks ago I had visited a provider in another healthcare system. Since my information was in two different portals, not only did I have to fill out the intake questionnaire, again, I had no way to show my two week old health information to the provider.
As a patient consumer, I have rights to all my health information, but since I have different providers with different patient ids, they have no way to aggregate my information if they don't have a BAA with every provider.
The industry keeps proposing creating a universal patient id. Lazy thinking and it failed years ago when they used your social security card.
Instead of a Universal Patient ID, we need a Universally Accepted Patient ID. Think of a QR code on your phone, which on registration is automatically recognized and allows the provider to automatically pull relevant information.
Pie in the sky thinking?
No, it is actually being built now. Healthcare Digital Identity Federation
