Read the actual poll here. So people are for:
1) Preventing health insurance companies from dropping coverage for people who become seriously ill
2) Preventing health insurance companies from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions
But against: Requiring all Americans who do not have health insurance to get it.
Makes sense to me. What wasn't asked was how to pay for items 1 and 2 if you don't require Americans to buy health insurance.
So the politicians pushing to repeal the individual mandate know full well that the only recourse will be for the Federal Government to insure more people. Actions speak louder than words. Those against the individual mandate are for a Single Payer System, even though they say they aren't. You can't have it both ways.
